Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the oldest form of medical practice in the world, employing sterile needles and/or burning herbs to positively affect an individual’s ability to function in all aspects of his or her life. It originated in China thousands of years ago, and today is the primary means of healthcare for over one third of the world’s population. Acupuncture works well in conjunction with other therapies, including those provided by traditional Western medicine and has been endorsed by both the National Institutes of Health (www.nih.gov) and the World Health Organization (www.who.int).
Ancient Arts Wellness is honored to provide a variety of acupuncture styles: Auricular Acupuncture, Five Element Acupuncture, Japanese Meridian Therapy, Korean Four Needle Technique, and Eight Principle Acupuncture (or TCM). Our acupuncturists also employ other techniques such as Moxibustion, Herbs, Cupping, Gua Sha, Bach Flower Essences, Reiki, and personalized Qi Gong instruction. Our resident Animal Acupuncturist, Tom Ingegno, makes house calls to his four-legged patients.

Counselling
Counseling is a profession, and practitioners usually have advanced degrees, are held to a set of professional and ethical standards, and are licensed in the state in which they practice. Counselors focus on the goals that their clients wish to achieve, and they are active listeners and unbiased supporters of their clients. Counseling is a personal process in which clients learn how to make decisions and formulate new ways of behaving, feeling, and thinking. It deals with several areas of concerns including personal, social, vocational, relationship, health, empowerment, and educational issues. Clients seeking counseling services may have adjustment, development, or situational concerns, and their problems often require short-term interventions and support. After clients are given the opportunity to clarify their thoughts and process their emotions, they begin to feel more in control of their lives and more supported in their decisions. Counseling is an active process that involves both choice and change.
Ancient Arts Wellness is honored to provide counseling services from a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who also specializes in Family Therapy. Counseling services are offered from a holistic perspective in which the counselor takes the mind, body, and emotions into account. It is also offered from an insight-oriented, strengths-based approach.

Massage
Swedish Massage uses longer flowing strokes combined with petrissage (kneading of muscles) to relax, improve circulation and help with reducing pain and stiffness. More general work - less specific.
Deep Tissue Massage employs a firmer touch to relieve tension in muscle and connective tissue. More specific work than Swedish. Very helpful for clients who have a persistent issue, who are athletic or very physically active, or have sustained a physical injury.
Myofascial Release is the stretching of the fascia (web of Connective tissue in the body responsible for creating structural integrity) in the body. Very light and concentrated work with the goal of eliminating pain, and increasing range of motion. Very good for clients who have sustained an injury or have other issues that too much manipulation would cause harm.
Pre and Post Natal Massage is structured to meet a new mother’s needs. Depending on the trimester she is in, or when she has delivered, it can be anything from a very general Swedish massage, to deeper work in certain areas. Truly a case by case situation.
Traditional Thai Massage is executed fully clothed and on a mat. This massage incorporates a traditional combination of pressure points, energy meridian work, and yoga-like stretching for an invigorating and balancing experience.
Reflexology is the application of pressure and stretches to the hands and feet to release patterns of stress in other parts of the body.

Energy Work
Qigong is a gentle form of physical, mental, and spiritual exercise which uses breath, posture, and movement to activate the body’s self regulating systems. Through qigong practice, the autonomic nervous system is brought into balance, oxygen metabolism is enhanced, lymph is pumped more efficiently, and the bio-electrical field is enhanced – thereby alleviating the everyday effects of tension, stress, and anxiety and improving overall health.
Reiki (a no-touch Japanese “energy massage”) works wonders by gently clearing blockages from the seven energy centers (”chakras”) that govern the proper flow of energy throughout the body and mind. Accompanied by relaxing music and/or guided visualizations, this special healing technique can de-stress, promote deep relaxation, and re-balance to increase physical stamina, emotional stability, and mental focus. Laying on a massage table fully clothed, you will be taken on a unique journey with each session as Alexandra places her hands just above your body, front and back, head to toe. Common are feelings of calm, euphoria, tingling, heat, emotional purging, and physical detoxification. Special prenatal and restorative postnatal wellness sessions are available to promote mother-baby bonding, relaxation, restoration, and rejuvenation.
Indications: Stress, fatigue, physical tension, physical aches/pains, difficulty concentrating/focusing, post-operative recovery, post traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse recovery
Incan shamanic energy medicine is based on the ancient knowledge that every being has an aura (or “luminous energy field”) which distributes energy (and filters out foreign energies) through the body’s seven energy centers (”chakras”). (Not surprisingly, the Inca share this awareness with indigenous cultures across the world, from India/Asia to Africa and the Americas.) This energy field becomes imprinted by everything from life’s little daily challenges to major traumas, which inform our physical, subconscious and emotional health, and hence how we feel and see ourselves in the world.
Shamanic energy medicine clears these imprints from the luminous energy field and chakras so that any resulting mental, emotional, or physical blockages (manifesting as stress, fatigue, depression, fear, physical disease, etc.) are restored to a natural state of flow, balance and harmony. This can bring about profound and lasting improvements in one’s life … changing limiting beliefs, improving relationships, and restoring energy, vitality, and peace. Sessions include some of the following profoundly therapeutic techniques, depending on your needs:
- Illumination (passive relaxation and active breath work to clear harmful or unnecessary energies from your luminous energy field and chakras and bring healing at the blueprint level of your being)
- Energy or Entity Extraction (removal of intrusive energies and elimination of affinities for toxic situations)
- Soul Retrieval (healing of energy losses and past traumas, rewriting “contracts” made subconsciously with yourself over time which no longer serve you, and helping to awaken your true potential)
- Death Rites (which help in achieving fearlessness in life transitions, ranging from new careers and birthing of children to passing to the next life)
- Guided Shamanic Journeying (which helps you journey to your subconscious to gain a new perspective on pieces of yourself that need attention or nurturing)
- Fire Ceremony Ritual (to acknowledge, honor, and release any “issues” or energetic blockages you may be experiencing, as well as to manifest positive outcomes in your life)
- Sand Painting / Mandala Ritual (to creatively bring a healing experience / shift into full manifestation)
Indications: Stress, fatigue, depression, fear, anger, guilt, physical tension, physical aches/pains, difficulty concentrating/focusing, insomnia, substance dependence, substance abuse rehabilitation, post-operative recovery, post traumatic stress disorder, premenstrual syndrome, pregnancy nausea/morning sickness, induction of labor
