A Center for Healing in Our Modern World

Happy New Year!

January 5th, 2010

Welcome to 2010, a new decade, and a new chance to find peace & wellness in your daily life. We’re here to help. Take a moment to click through our practitioners’ bios and see what we have to offer.

We also have some upcoming events that you may want to check out:

  • On January 23rd from 7:00 to 9:00pm, some of our practitioners will be taking part in the Balance In The Night event at True Balance Studio at 1021 Cathedral Street - a few blocks away from our office in the Mount Vernon neighborhood. Please join us. In addition to our presence, there will be a cooking demonstration, an aerial performance and much more.
  • We are continuing with our First Friday Meditation series in partnership with the Vikatadamshtri Buddist Center. These meditations take place 7:30 - 8:15pm on the first Friday of every month and are coupled with a practical discussion of mindfulness practices that we can all use in our daily lives. Suggested donation: $8. All experience levels welcome.
  • The wonderful artwork of Val Lucas, is still on display here in the office - but not for much longer. If you haven’t seen her work, please stop by. Hers has been the most acclaimed show yet and many of her prints are selling out (at really reasonable prices). And be sure to keep checking back here for news of our next exhibit.

Wishing you a happy & healthy new year,

Janice, Tom, & all of us here at AAW

Welcome to November!

November 3rd, 2009

As usual, we’ve got a few things going on.

~ We attended a very successful health fair at the Peabody Institute last week.

~We’ve created a wonderful partnership with International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Highlandtown. Check out their website. If you’re looking for a place to donate household items or make other charitable contributions this holiday season, they are a more than worthy cause.

~ Janice’s new column on living with the seasons is up on the Charmed Magazine’s website.

~ We are looking forward to the opening for our new artist, Val Lucas, on Saturday, November 14th from 6-8pm. Her woodblock prints are exquisite and quite beautiful! All pieces are on sale and all the money goes to the artist. We showcase a new artist every 2-3 months. So, check here for the next opening event and join us for a dose of beauty and good conversation.

~ Coming up this Friday, November 6th, is our monthly First Friday Meditation with Cole Strode from the Vikatadamshtri Buddhist Center. It’s a very inviting and calming way to slide into the weekend. Appropriate for all experience levels. Suggested donation: $8

With the winter energy beginning to creep in,  may this season find you well and truly blessed.

~ All of us here at Ancient Arts Wellness

All Beings Are Precious

September 4th, 2009

This was the theme of this month’s 1st Friday Meditation. Each month we explore one of the sections of The Eight Verses Of Training The Mind, a poem by Geshe Langri Tangpa, that distills the eight tenants of Buddhist thought.  This month’s verse was:

Examining my mental continuum

throughout all my actions,

As soon as a delusion develops

Whereby I or others would act inappropriately,

May I firmly face it and avert it.

We had four new folks in attendance and the discussion was illuminating. Thank you all for coming and please join us again.  And for those of you who have yet to make it, it is a very informal and welcoming event and we’d love for you to join us.

~Janice, Tom, & the staff of Ancient Arts Wellness
